1. Who we are
ParkRisk is a parking-risk information platform that combines available official parking data with community-contributed parking reports.
Controller: Reza Afsharian
Contact: contact@parkrisk.com
2. What data we collect
Depending on how you use ParkRisk, we may collect:
- contact details, such as email address, if you contact us or create an account
- account information, if you sign in or register
- location-related data, such as searched, saved, or reported parking locations
- user submissions, such as reports, notes, and case details
- technical and usage data, such as device/browser information, IP address, app activity, approximate diagnostics, and aggregated analytics events
- locally stored preferences or saved history on your device, where applicable
We aim to collect only the data reasonably needed to run and improve ParkRisk, consistent with the GDPR principle of data minimisation.
3. Why we use your data
We use personal data to:
- provide and operate ParkRisk
- save your history, reports, and preferences
- review and moderate community submissions
- respond to support requests and inquiries
- improve product quality, safety, and usability
- detect abuse, spam, or misuse
- comply with legal obligations
- communicate important service updates where appropriate
4. Legal bases for processing
Depending on the situation, we process personal data on one or more of these grounds:
- performance of a contract or steps taken at your request, when we provide account or service features
- legitimate interests, such as operating, securing, and improving ParkRisk
- consent, where you choose to provide certain optional information or where consent is required
- legal obligation, where processing is necessary to comply with law
5. Community content and visibility
If you submit a report or note, some parts of that content may be shown within ParkRisk to support the community experience. Public-facing content may be displayed without showing your real identity.
Ticket and sign photos submitted as evidence are stored privately and are available only to authorized moderators. They are not displayed publicly.
Please do not upload sensitive personal information, private third-party information, or anything you do not want associated with a parking report.
6. Cookies, local storage, and device-based history
ParkRisk uses a limited set of cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to keep the service working and remember choices on the same device.
This may include language preference, sign-in or admin session state, in-progress report drafts, and device-based history such as saved locations, report activity, and likes when you use ParkRisk without signing in.
ParkRisk also uses Vercel Web Analytics to understand overall traffic and page usage. Vercel describes this analytics product as privacy-friendly and cookieless, and it is used in aggregated form to help improve the service.
ParkRisk does not currently use advertising cookies or marketing trackers.
If you do not sign in, your saved history may remain tied to that device and may be lost if you clear browser storage, switch browsers, or change devices.
7. How long we keep data
We keep personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, unless a longer period is required by law.
- support emails: for as long as needed to handle the inquiry and any follow-up
- account data: while your account remains active and for a reasonable period afterward
- community reports and moderation data: for as long as useful for service operation, trust, safety, and record-keeping
- anonymized report-deletion records: for up to 12 months; these retain only a report ID hash, deletion time and actor type, broad deletion reason, and previous moderation/evidence state—not report text, location, identity, or images
- device-based guest data: until deleted by the user, overwritten, or removed by browser/device settings
8. Who we share data with
We may share personal data with service providers that help us operate ParkRisk, such as hosting, analytics, storage, authentication, mapping, email, or support providers, but only where reasonably necessary.
- if required by law
- to protect rights, safety, or security
- in connection with a business transfer, merger, or restructuring
These providers currently include infrastructure and analytics tools such as Vercel, as well as Supabase, Mapbox, and email service providers used to run ParkRisk.
We may also disclose information:
Where a provider processes personal data outside the EU/EEA, we rely on an applicable transfer mechanism, such as an adequacy decision or approved standard contractual clauses.
9. Your rights
If the GDPR applies to your data, you may have the right to:
- access your personal data
- correct inaccurate data
- request deletion of data in some circumstances
- restrict or object to certain processing in some circumstances
- withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
- request data portability where applicable
- lodge a complaint with your data protection authority
The European Commission's guidance for individuals explains these GDPR rights and how they may be exercised.
10. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data and reduce the risk of unauthorized access, misuse, or loss. However, no system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
11. Children
ParkRisk is not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date and may provide additional notice where appropriate.
